Carry On Baggage

Every Barrier Air fare includes 7 kg of permitted Carry-on Baggage.

Great Barrier Island, Whitianga & Tauranga Flights

For each fare paying passenger a luggage allowance of 20 kg is permitted (excluding Seat Only fares).

Excess luggage may be carried at a discretionary extra charge, applied to luggage over 20 kg.

Kaitaia Flights

For each fare paying passenger a luggage allowance of 23 kg is permitted (excluding Seat Only fares).

Excess luggage may be carried at a discretionary extra charge, applied to luggage over 23 kg.

Excess Luggage carriage is subject to space and weight availability. In some cases we may not be able to accept excess. 

Occasionally, due to weather or other factors, we may not be able to carry your allowance; however this will be shipped on the next flight with space available, to your flight destination. 

The carrier does not guarantee the carriage of additional luggage for weight purposes. The maximum sized surfboard that Barrier Air is able to transport is 6'4" and will travel subject to space availability.

Barrier Air and its appointed agents accept no liability for damages consequential upon the loss, delay or damage of goods or luggage. The carrier accepts no responsibility for fragile or perishable articles carried in luggage.  In periods of high demand, excess luggage, if accepted, may be delayed.

Restricted articles / dangerous goods

Articles such as the following may not be carried in passenger’s luggage:

  • Flammable or poisonous compressed gases
  • Corrosive materials (acids, mercury, etc.)
  • Explosives (fireworks and other articles that are easily ignited)
  • Magnetised materials / Oxidising substances / Poisonous, toxic, infectious substances /radioactive material
  • Lithium Batteries (including 'Hoverboards' etc.)
  • Other dangerous goods
